🚧 Programs Under Development
The educational programs described on this page are currently being designed and built.
Content, timelines, and specific details will evolve as development progresses. We welcome
early expressions of interest and will announce updates as programs become available.
YouTube Course Series (In Development)
We are developing a comprehensive YouTube course series designed to bring complex systems modeling to a broader audience. Drawing on years of graduate-level teaching experience, the series will restructure this material specifically for online learning—replacing traditional 90-minute lectures with focused 20–30 minute modules designed to build intuition, visual understanding, and conceptual clarity.
The planned structure uses a color-coded three-track system to help learners navigate content:
- Applications/Policy (Blue): Policy-relevant case studies and modeling applications
- Methods/Foundations (Green): Mathematical and computational techniques
- Statistics/ML (Purple): Data analysis, inference, and machine learning
Because complex systems modeling requires mathematical and statistical foundations, we're organizing the material so that methods modules—covering linear algebra, differential equations, probability, regression, and machine learning—are introduced exactly when they're needed for upcoming policy applications. This "interleaved" approach ensures students always understand why a method matters before learning it.
While the content draws on graduate-level material, it is being redesigned specifically for online audiences, emphasizing narrative, visualization, and accessible explanations. The goal is to make complex systems modeling approachable to researchers, policymakers, students, and practitioners without sacrificing analytical rigor.
All course content will be freely available on YouTube.
Professional Certification Program (Planned)
While all course content will be freely available on YouTube, we plan to offer a formal certification program for students seeking structured feedback, hands-on practice, and professional credentials. The program is being designed with three tiers to accommodate different learning goals—from skill development to research collaboration.
Planned Program Structure (Preliminary)
Certificate of Completion: Students would complete all course modules and pass homework assignments, demonstrating proficiency in complex systems modeling techniques. This track would provide structured practice with personalized feedback on problem sets.
Certificate with Distinction: Students who excel in coursework would develop an approved research paper demonstrating application of course methodologies to policy-relevant questions. Papers would be published on arXiv following instructor review.
Research Mentorship Certificate: Advanced students would collaborate directly with Dr. Vardavas to co-author peer-reviewed research papers applying course methods to real policy problems. This track would combine coursework, close mentorship, and publication in academic journals, providing students with both certification and a research portfolio suitable for PhD applications or research positions.
The certification program is envisioned for graduate students preparing for PhD programs in public policy, operations research, or quantitative social sciences; early-career researchers building portfolios for competitive research positions; and professionals transitioning into policy analysis, mathematical modeling, or decision science roles.
We encourage prospective students to follow the YouTube course content as it becomes available to ensure the material aligns with their interests and learning goals. Program details, including specific requirements, pricing, timelines, and enrollment procedures, will be announced as the YouTube series develops.
